Quick answer: Who Gives A Crap brought a giant talking toilet roll to Bristol and Manchester as part of its £1.5 million Feel Good Toilet Paper campaign, using experiential OOH to make a routine category feel joyful, memorable and purpose-led.
A Giant Talking Toilet Roll Hits the Streets
Eco-friendly, purpose-led toilet paper brand Who Gives A Crap has taken its Feel Good Toilet Paper campaign into the real world with a giant talking toilet roll in Bristol and Manchester.
The activation forms part of a wider £1.5 million campaign spanning video on demand, social media, influencers, podcasts, out-of-home and retail.
In a category often defined by routine purchases and low consumer engagement, the brand is using humour, surprise and public interaction to bring more personality to the toilet paper aisle.
Turning a Low-Engagement Category Into a Public Conversation
Toilet paper is not usually a product people stop to talk about.
That is exactly why the idea works. By placing an oversized talking toilet roll in busy city environments, Who Gives A Crap turns an everyday household item into a street-level experience people can notice, laugh at and remember.
The campaign celebrates the joy of choosing products that make people feel good while also doing good, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to donate 50% of its profits to help improve access to clean water and toilets globally.
Feel Good Toilet Paper Comes to Life
At the heart of the campaign is a simple truth: when consumers engage with Who Gives A Crap, they are not just feeling good, they are doing good too.
Feel Good Toilet Paper highlights the joy of unwrapping the brand’s distinctively designed rolls, the softness of its sustainable materials and the pride of choosing a product built for impact.
The experiential activation brings that philosophy into public space, transforming brand purpose into a playful moment that people can physically encounter.
From Bristol to Manchester
The activation began in Bristol on June 12 and 13 before moving to Manchester on June 19 and 20.
Designed and delivered with Sense, the experience surprised passersby with hidden voices delivering compliments, light humour and unexpected charm.
Visitors were drawn in by curiosity, then met with playful details including an oversized fart button, a hand emerging from the giant roll and free bamboo toilet roll samples.
Samples, Merch and Retail Connection
The giant roll did more than entertain. It also created a direct product trial opportunity.
Across Bristol and Manchester, the activation offered 44,000 free bamboo toilet roll samples, along with Feel Good merchandise.
QR codes and vouchers also connected the street-level experience to shopping behavior, giving consumers discounts online and in Tesco stores.
Why the Activation Feels Impossible to Ignore
Olivia Rayner, creative director at Sense, described the idea as wonderfully absurd: a giant talking toilet roll giving strangers compliments in the middle of a city.
That absurdity is exactly what gives the activation its stopping power.
Beneath the humour is a very human idea: people need small moments of joy in their day, and Who Gives A Crap wants to make consumers feel good about choosing a product that is soft, sustainable and connected to a larger global mission.
A Major UK Marketing Investment
The Feel Good Toilet Paper campaign is expected to generate more than 70 million impressions across the UK.
It marks one of Who Gives A Crap’s largest UK marketing investments to date and supports the brand’s growth and retail momentum following its successful launch in Tesco in July last year.
Campaign activity includes YouTube, Meta, podcasts, influencer partnerships, billboard and bus advertising, alongside retail activations with Tesco, Waitrose, John Lewis and Ocado.
Bringing Personality to an Overlooked Aisle
Anna Dominey, UK General Manager at Who Gives A Crap, said the brand believes toilet paper should do more than sit quietly in the bathroom.
The campaign reflects that belief by turning a functional product into a source of humour, conversation and positive impact.
Whether through a free sample or a compliment from a giant toilet roll, the activation is designed to stop people in their tracks, make them smile and show that choosing products that do good can feel good too.
Why This Campaign Works
The campaign works because it uses a bold experiential idea to solve a classic category problem: low attention.
Who Gives A Crap does not rely only on sustainability claims or product benefits. Instead, it creates a memorable physical experience that makes the brand’s purpose easier to feel, share and remember.
By combining humour, sampling, retail incentives and purpose-led storytelling, the campaign turns a routine purchase into a joyful brand moment.
